On September 1, 2023, Thomas Alexander Kolbe will release his new maxi single, “THE MOON PRINCESS,” showcasing two new ambient tracks that highlight his unique musical vision. The single features the titular track “THE MOON PRINCESS” and “THE ABSENCE OF MATERIALISM”.

“THE MOON PRINCESS”
The title track, “THE MOON PRINCESS,” transports listeners to a tranquil lunar landscape. The track features a guitar that transitions into and is later accompanied by a choir, which gradually takes over the “scene.” Starting from the midpoint, we hear a synthesizer triad with echo. The track is underscored throughout with expansive, floating synthesizer pads. Overall, the piece is highly meditative.
Main key of “THE MOON PRINCESS” is A minor. Kolbe employs a compositional shift from A minor to progressively uplifting keys. We can feel our mood increasingly brighten and our thoughts open up towards the end.
We experience an emotional transition from an introspective mood to a rewarding feeling of happiness.
“THE ABSENCE OF MATERIALISM”
The track “THE ABSENCE OF MATERIALISM” begins with a sense of tension, shifts rhythms, and features a distinctive guitar sample in its opening section. After a piano transition and the introduction of a compelling synthesizer pad, the track moves into a lounge segment that continues the track’s signature sounds and tonality, now complemented by bass and a typical lounge rhythm. Toward the end, listen closely for a very very faint flute. 🙂
“THE ABSENCE OF MATERIALISM” uses a variety of elements in a relaxing and dramaturgically astute manner. Listeners will be pleasantly surprised by how engaging the track is. The term “dramaturgically” is fitting, as the track’s structure resembles that of a film score, with shifts in tension and climaxes carefully arranged without overwhelming the listener.
